Two weeks ago (4.17) the S. Korean labor union of E-Land marked the 300th day of its strike. With no breakthrough in sight, Kim Gyeong-wook, the head of the E-Land union 'predicted': “The E-Land dispute will only end if the union dies or the company dies.”4.18 video activist released his documentary movie about the strike. Labor Nowからのお知らせです。ハワイ・ホノルルにワイキキ海岸にあります「パシフィックビーチホテル」で組合つぶしを狙いとした悪質な解雇争議が発生しています。
2002年に全米港湾労組（ILWU）が組合づくりに着手して以来、ホテルの経営側は妨害を繰り返し、全米労使関係局(NLRB)によって組合が認証された後も、不誠実な対応に終始してきました。
2007年1月、ホテルを経営するHTH社はホテルの運営管理を別会社へ委託して、従業員を全員移籍させました。ところが2007年7月、12月1日をもってHTH社は委託を解除することと従業員に元のHTH社に再雇用すると発表します。しかも、全員に「再応募」することを求めます。そして、会社は組合づくりの中心メンバーばかり32名を不当にも「不採用」にし、12月1日付で解雇します。
以来、解雇撤回と組合との交渉を求める闘いが続いています。
地元の労働組合やコミュニティの運動団体、キリスト教教会などが集まって「ビーチに正義を」（Justice at the Beach)が結成され、労働者たちへの支援とこのホテルのボイコット運動が拡大しています。
日本の労働組合へは、ILWU並びに、AFL-CIO、国際運輸労連(ITF)から支援要請がありました。ILWUより私たちLaborNowに対しても日本でのILWUの連絡窓口と支援運動の調整を要請されました。
これらを受けて、３月に全港湾労組、サービス連合が支援を決定し、４月16日には交運労協、4月17日には連合が支援決定を行いました。連合は傘下の組合員にこのホテルの利用を控えることを呼びかけることを決めました。
パシフィックビーチホテル」の利用者の約７〜８割は日本からの観光客なので、この争議の解決のために、日本での取り組みが大変重要となります。

先住民族のテレビ放送の連帯、促進のため世界会議開催された。結果として、国際ネットワークが立ち上げられ、第２回会議、2010年に台湾で開催されることになった。
The first ever gathering of indigenous television leaders from throughout the world was held in Auckland, New Zealand, from March 26-28, 2008. The World Indigenous Television Broadcasting Conference – WITBC ’08 – was aimed at unifying, strengthening and promoting indigenous broadcasters.
A global network of indigenous television broadcasters will be a major outcome of the inaugural World Indigenous Television Broadcasting Conference hosted by Māori Television at the end of March.
The conference also gave delegates a forum to discuss the need, benefits, scope and nature of a World Indigenous Television Broadcasting Network (WITBN) which will promote indigenous broadcasting at the highest levels internationally and foster closer relationships between broadcasters.
